The House & Garden Designers of the Year Awards once again celebrated excellence in South African architecture, interiors, and landscaping. At this year’s event, held at the Norval Foundation, design studio ARRCC was honoured with Home of the Year for its sculptural masterpiece, Wave Villa.
A Villa in Harmony with Nature
Located at the foot of Lion’s Head in Cape Town, Wave Villa embodies the fusion of architectural innovation and environmental sensitivity. Its undulating, wave-like roof is both a dramatic focal point and a tribute to its seaside setting.
The form appears to float above the steel framework, drawing in panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and deepening the home’s connection to its natural environment.
Reimagining Space
Rather than expanding its footprint, ARRCC focused on reimagining the existing structure. The design embraces open-plan living, pairing functionality with refined aesthetics. Natural materials soften the architectural drama, while fluid transitions between indoor and outdoor areas enhance the sense of harmony with the coastal landscape.
“The floating, wave-inspired roof is what makes this villa so distinctive,” says ARRCC Director Jon Case. “It symbolises integration with the landscape and has become the defining feature of a modern architectural landmark.”
Recognition and Influence
Wave Villa previously appeared in the November 2024 edition of House & Garden South Africa, and this latest accolade underscores ARRCC’s reputation for creating luxury spaces that resonate locally and internationally.
The awards were judged by a panel of leading industry experts, spotlighting the country’s top creative talents. ARRCC’s win reflects both technical mastery and artistic vision – a benchmark for South African design in 2025.
